If we can design it in 180 X 180 X 100mm (max) sections - then we could conceivably use my printer to print the entire gun.
The trick would be to design it so the sections came together firmly. This might be our best V3 plan if not V2. I tried finding the gun I bought online but haven't had any luck. Might drop by Walmart to see if they still have the one I bought - but it was so long ago now I'm not holding out hope.

I was just at Walmart in Boothwyn today and picked up the same gun. Though I got a different color. They had at least 3 of them left as of today.

What was the price? When you get a chance, pick up another two and I'll paypal you the money (assuming you have a paypal acct). Even if we don't end up using them, could always sell them on ebay or give them to my neighbor who is a crazy gun kid. Post a pic when you get a chance.

If they have grey, get grey. Green is very nerfy.

Sent you a PM. So I was talking to the co-worker I was referencing in our discussion Monday. He is a gun guy (as well as a geek, but not a video game guy) - and showed him a picture of the gun we are using. He says its an M4 variant (AR15) and that it would be the perfect style of gun to use in a modular approach. He said google "AR15 lower" to see what the base component of the gun looks like.
I figure that if we could fit all the electronics into that - we could model everything after that approach and re-use a lot of public domain 3D models. We would probably have to make the lower section wider - but he indicated we could probably do that without affecting interfaces with all the plugin attachments.

I see what's going on. They only give you 4G of attachment space for free and its exceeded - they just don't tell you and instead just post without the attachment. Supposedly you can pay for extra space but I don't see the option for it. I think its probably better if we find another place to store images and just do links. Perhaps only do attachments if they are small.

Definitely close, but that grip makes it a different gun. Everything else looks identical. The existance of that grip makes me think a bit about changing some things up...

Yea the grip is part of the flashlight attachment. I haven't disassembled it yet…since deciding the best locations for buttons. Plus I got all the other wiring to look at first.

So here is an example. A site that has the AR15 receiver 3D model. grabcad.com/library/ar15-lower-receiver--1If we can fit all the electronics in that - we would have the basis for a pretty awesome (and well known) plug and play gun - this one has the largest known array of attachments and options. If I have time while I'm at my parents I might look a bit at that model.

That sketchup model looks really good. The shape looks pretty good for house the main boards.
